| Ushabti
Figure - Middle Kingdom (2,000 BCE)
Ushabtis were magical figures made to do work for a person in the
spiritual world. The word ushabti means "answerer", and there is a
spell in the Egyptian Book of the Dead which calls them to work on
one's behalf. Ushabti figures are mummiform figures holding a pick
and hoe as symbols of labor. This figure is made from faience, a
type of glazed quartz clay. This figure is 60mm tall, and 20mm wide.
It was pressed from a stone mold, and is darkened from baking too
long in the potter's kiln! $45.00 |
